Free Fun In Austin continues to highlight Austin area locations and activities that may not be available at this time. We encourage you to take all safety measures to keep yourself and your neighbors safe. It is our hope that the stories and features on this site will help inform your plans in the future.

Monday

Baby Bloomers – Monday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Children age 0-3 and their families are invited to begin an exploration of famous artists. Prepare to get messy while exploring the action art of Jackson Pollock. Dive into colored spaghetti, paint with magnets, and splatter color all over the Paint Wall. Plus, Staci Gray’s sing-a-long will get you dancing at 10:30 a.m. Cost: Members $2.50 each / Non-Members $4.50 each. All people attending, regardless of age, must purchase a ticket. Storytime Yoga (RSVP) – Monday, May 9 at 2:30 p.m. Bring your kids of all ages (babies are very welcome) to watch their favorite stories come to life through yoga poses. Reserve your child’s FREE spot here. The Little Yoga House, 1211 Parkway, Austin.

Lego Lab – Monday, May 9 at 3:30 p.m. With LEGO, you can build anything you can imagine and tell any story you can dream up. Crafternoon – Monday, May 9 at 3:30 p.m. Drop by the library and make a craft while you search for books, movies, and music. Eat What You Want Day Storytime – Tuesday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. Your dentist might not exactly approve, but it’s time to celebrate the nationally recognized day devoted to eating whatever you want. Community Night at The Thinkery – Wednesday, May 11 from 4-8:00 p.m. At the Thinkery, science and families play side by side. Every Wednesday the museum stays open late for families to discover new ideas and learn together. Cost: Admission is by donation only, with a suggested $1 donation. Felt Friends World Tour: Tiny Cat – Wednesday, May 11 at 4:30 p.m. Join the fun and sew another felt project each month through May. Discovery! Writing – Whodunit? – Wednesday, May 11 at 4:30 p.m. It was Miss Scarlet, in the library, with her favorite pen. Do you like to read mysteries? Play the game Clue and write your very own whodunit mystery. Each player will create their own character (complete with motives and alibis), draw their picture, and play the game – as their character. Want to find out who’s the culprit? Downtown Street Fair – Friday, May 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Join the Downtown Austin Alliance every Friday through June 3 for a festival including food vendors, retailers, entertainers, artists, and more. FREE! 9th and Congress, Austin.

Digital Resource Fair – Friday, May 13 from Noon to 4:00 p.m. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the city’s ongoing efforts to close the Digital Divide, and an opportunity to inspire people to do more with technology and inspire them to make the investment to improve their own technical skills. Want to learn the basics about computers or the internet? Public Works Open House (Pflugerville) – Friday, May 13 from 1-6:00 p.m. See the steps it takes for water to get to your faucet and back. Explore the laboratory where water samples are taken and measured. Meet the people who provide services for you in the community. Climb on board some of the backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers and equipment used to maintain city streets and right-of-ways. Books and Beer – Friday, May 13 from 6-9:30 p.m. The Austin Public Library’s human-powered mobile branch, unbound: sin fronteras, will be on hand to sign people up for Library Cards and check out books. The Austin Book Arts Center will also be on site to engage people of all ages in creative, interpretive, and educational experiences related to the arts of the book. At 7:00 p.m., book-lovers are invited to join in the dedication ceremony and unveiling of in.gredient’s very own Little Free Library, decorated by the eastside’s very own Federico Archuleta – Graffiti Western Artist. The main event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with a special “Friday the 13th Bad Luck Story Hour” featuring lighthearted tales of tough breaks, close calls, misfortune and woe.
