FREE Monday Tango Night with Singer Carlos Perez Intro Tango Class
Monday, Jan. 8 | from 8 to 11 p.m. | Native Hostel and Bar & Kitchen, 807 E. 4th St.
Everyone is welcome to a fun Tango Night at Native Hostel and Bar & Kitchen. The evening starts with an intro lesson to authentic Argentine Tango (no experience or partner needed) and follows with two hours filled of social dancing by wonderful Argentinian Singer Carlos Perez. This is a great way to extend the weekend! This event is 100% free. Though you should bring a tip for the band.

Pints & Poses at Hyatt Regency Austin
Monday, Jan. 8 | from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. | Hyatt Regency Austin, 208 Barton Springs Rd.
Hyatt Regency Austin will host its first Pints & Poses class of 2018 on Monday. The event will include complimentary yoga hosted by Ferny Barcelo, lead class instructor, with assistant instructor Zuzu Perkal. The yoga class will be accompanied by live, meditative music from Trey Tarwater, a local yoga DJ. Guests are encouraged to bring their own mats. Following the Pints & Poses class, participants will receive a coupon for a complimentary beer.

Discover what you didn’t learn in school with Austin’s dirtiest professor, Cupcake, Ph. DD. Mondays at 7 p.m., Austin’s Drag Superstar quizzes you and your classmates with her unique spin on classic trivia. There will be performances, prizes for promising students and punishments for dunces. FREE to play!

FREE Tinkergarten Trial Class
Tuesday, Jan. 9 | from 10 to 11:15 a.m. | Dick Nichols District Park, 5833 Westminster Dr.
At Tinkergarten, families meet outdoors to connect and learn through play. In this free trial, Tinkergarten Leader, Sara Headden, will facilitate an expert-designed play scenario, allowing children of various ages and needs to explore, problem solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Homeschool Class – Buffalo Soldiers (Lockhart)

Lockhart State Park’s homeschool program is a set of outdoor classes designed for homeschool kiddos grades 1-5. There is no need to register. January’s topic is history with the Texas Buffalo Soldiers! The Buffalo Soldiers are Texas’ very own living history interpreters. Join Lt. Dolifka and Pvt. Mack on the Texas frontier for some activities to illustrate life in the army. Explore their Buffalo Soldier camp and listen to stories about the lives of these trail-blazing soldiers. Dress for the weather (sturdy shoes and layers recommended) and bring water. Meet in the picnic area of the park. If driving from park HQ, pass the pool and take your first right-hand turn into the picnic area parking lot. Regular park entrance fees apply ($3/adult, free for children 12 & under) but class is FREE.

Nerd Nite Austin
Wednesday, Jan. 10 | at 7 p.m. | The North Door, 502 Brushy St., Austin 
Nerd Nite is like the backyard wrestling version of TED. Each month three intellectual obsessives, drinks in hand, lead the audience through topics culled from the ivory towers of academia and the weird basements of geekdom. For more socially inclined nerds, speed dating, friend matching, and a curated pop-up library are also on offer. Lounge Doors at 6 p.m., main doors at 7 p.m., Talks start at 7:30 p.m. (ish) No cover!

Six Shooter Stand Up Comedy

A FREE stand-up comedy show at Barrel O’ Fun? Yuuuuuuuup. Six Shooter brings to the stage six of Austin’s funniest stand-up comedians. Hosted by freestyle country western legends Knuck Deep (played by Aaron Brooks & Mac Blake). It’s a guaranteed good time.

Public Tour: The Changing American Landscape
Thursday, Jan. 11 | from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. | Blanton Museum of Art, 200 MLK Jr. Blvd., Austin
The wide-open spaces of the American West have beckoned artists since the 19th century. Trace the development of landscape painting from its roots in Europe to its culmination in the 21st century during this tour that features the newly reinstalled C.R. Smith Collection of Western Art. FREE admission on Thursdays.

New Year’s Wine Walk
Thursday, Jan. 11 | from 5 to 9 p.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd, Bee Cave
The Hill Country Galleria’s Wine Walk happens on the 2nd Thursday of every month. This is a unique wine and social gathering experience. Get to know the eclectic mix of businesses in the Galleria while discovering great wines from all over the world. Start at Twin Liquors to pick up a map to guide you on the Wine Walk. Keep your map with you as your ticket for each wine walk stop. This event is open to everyone, so bring your friends, family, groups, or date for a fun way to spend a Thursday evening.

MLK Day Film Screenings

Film Screening Schedule: King: Go Beyond The Dream to Discover the Man at 11 a.m.,  Eyes on the Prize: Vol. 5, Power! (1966-1969), The Promised Land (1967-1968), America’s Civil Rights Movement  at 12:40 p.m., and Selma at 2:45 p.m. FREE and open to the public.

Night Hike

Discover the world that nocturnal animals experience each night in the park after dark! There will be a limited supply of black light flashlights. If you bring your own, that will give you the best opportunity to find your own creatures! Please note that due to interest in Night Hikes, this program is limited to the first 50 participants. All programs are FREE with paid park admission, which is $6 per person ages 13 and over.

Austin Vida & C3 Concerts: Free Week Latin Dance Party

The Stubb’s Free Week Showcase 2018 is happening on Friday. Doors at 8:30 with music starting at 9 p.m. Lineup is as follows: Ex-Romantika (Funk) at 9, Afrofreque (Hip Hop/R&B) at 10, Timberos Del Norte (Timba Salsa) at 11 and Este Vato (Latin Fusion) at Midnight.
