Free Early Childhood Music Demo Class

Spring into Early Childhood Music Classes at Armstrong Community Music School. They offer FREE demo classes for families new to the school at our main campus in Westlake 7 days a week. Texas Peace Officer’s Memorial
Monday, May 6 | at 10:3 a.m. | Texas State Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave.
“The Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Committee combines the voice of the surviving families of a Fallen Peace Officer with the strength of our great State and our statewide law enforcement agencies, associations and organizations. Our mission is not only to plan and facilitate an annual Memorial event to honor their sacrifice but to also be a source of the latest information concerning each Texas Peace Officers Line of Duty Death as they occur.” The 2019 Texas Peace Officers Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil is around the corner. These services will be held in Austin, Texas at the State Capitol.

Texas THON Calendar
Tuesday, May 7 | from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Gregory Plaza, University of Texas at Austin
Come one, come all! Texas THON is hosting our carnival on May 7 at Gregory Plaza. Play carnival-style games of Giant Skee-Ball and Picture Matching to win a water bottle, shirt, or sticker! Each game will cost one ticket to play.

Donation Based Storytime Yoga

Bring your kids of all ages (babies are very welcome) to watch their favorite stories come to life through yoga poses in this donation based class! If you’ve never visited our studio, this is a great way to get an idea of what kids yoga looks like! *please register online beforehand*

ROKA Weekly Pop-Up Run Club
Wednesday, May 8 | from 6:30 to 8 p.m. | Roka, 408 W 2ND St.
Join ROKA, The Trail Foundation, FitJoy and Waterloo for a free weekly run series. Meet at the ROKA Pop-up every Wednesday for a trail run at 6:30pm followed by snacks and beverages post-run at the ROKA Pop-Up. For every sunglass purchase made, ROKA will donate $10 to The Trail Foundation. Free and open to everyone.

UT Brainstorms

The Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin is excited to announce the topic for their next UT Brainstorms -The Listening Brain, A Conversation About Our Sonic World, Music and Hearing Impairments, with Dr. Nace Golding! Science Under The Stars

Demand for sustainable, locally produced food is growing across the U.S. This movement has led to a resurgence in local farmer’s markets, urban gardening, and farms utilizing sustainable soil practices guided by permaculture principles. The results of these past and ongoing efforts to produce sustainable food have to led to incredible examples of abused land that has been restored to healthy and productive farm ecosystems. Come join us at Science Under the Stars this month if you want to learn about permaculture principles, soil biology and ecology, and more! Science Under the Stars is a free public outreach lecture series in Austin.

Mother’s Day Luncheon

Moms, we appreciate all that you do everyday for your family and community. Let us celebrate you at Easter Seals’ first ever Mother’s Day Luncheon and Self-Care Workshop! Come for lunch, stay for some much-needed self-care, and leave with new friends. Childcare will be provided!

Austin Percussion Festival
Friday, May 10 | at 7 p.m. | Imagine Art, 2830 Real St.
On May 10 The Kraken Quartet presents the first annual Austin Percussion Festival. This free event will showcase diverse percussion music from across our city. Enjoy performances by Austin Samba, The Kraken Quartet, and The UT Austin Percussion Ensemble. Support students from Austin Soundwaves and Round Rock High School as they play alongside local professionals in exciting collaborations. Take part in the festival raffle, featuring prizes from local businesses including Cuvee Coffe, Celis Brewing, The Texas Stars, and many more! Free admission. Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindewald Free Outdoor Screening
Friday, May 10 | from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village.
Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. They’ll be welcoming Austin’s Office of Police Oversight (ATX Police Oversight) as our Community Partners on this event. They’re excited to share about their mission with you all before the film begins. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
