Free Fun In Austin continues to highlight Austin area locations and activities that may not be available at this time. We encourage you to take all safety measures to keep yourself and your neighbors safe. It is our hope that the stories and features on this site will help inform your plans in the future.


Camp Austin
Monday, July 29 | from 6 to 8:30 p.m. | Quarries Park, 11400 N. Mopac Expy.
Starting Monday, July 29 through the 31st, Camp Austin is hosting a free camp for kids ages 4-12. We will even feed them dinner for free! Games, crafts, and music! Find out more on our Facebook page “camp Austin 2019” or our website www.campaustin.org


Summer Kids Series at Austin Humane SocietyArt Workshop
Tuesday, July 30 | from 10 to 11 a.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane
When art and animals meet, who knows what will happen! Bring your budding artist and their creativity and we’ll supply the rest. Kids will have plenty of time to get artsy and create a fun animal-themed work of art all while learning about either cats or dogs. This session is recommended for children 8 and younger.

APL Studios – Poster Design
Tuesday, July 30 | from 2 to 4 p.m. | APL – Central Library, 710 W. Cesar Chavez Street
Illustrator artist Kevin Tong will head our final masterclass to help teens learn how to market their finished films. Kevin Tong’s incredible art spans across a wide spectrum; from movie posters for Mondo Tees, show posters for musical acts like The Pixies, and illustrations for publications like The Atlantic. Learn elements of graphic design, marketing, and movie promotion as you work with other teens to develop posters for the films created throughout the summer APL Studios program. The APL Studios series of programs are open to teens only, ages 13 to 18. Space is limited.

Space Slime
Tuesday, July 30 | at 4 p.m. | University Hills Branch Library, 4721 Loyola Ln.
Come add colors, swirls, and glitter, glitter, glitter to your slime concoctions to make slime in space. This event could be messy to hands and clothing. All supplies provided. Ages 7-13 preferred. 

Summer Sunset Series
Tuesday, July 30| from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St.
Join for Summer Sunset Series 2019, presented by Topo Chico and sponsored by Outdoor Voices, in Republic Square. An hour vinyasa flow led by a Wanderlust Yoga Austin instructor and accompanied by a live musician or DJ. We hope to build a connection through the activation of yoga, music and community. This free event will be open to the public and catered to all levels of yoga experience. Every Tuesday this summer.


Mommy N Me Storytime Gymnastics

Retro Video Games
Wednesday, July 31 | from 5 to 9 p.m. | Sauce Odyssey, 1403 E. 7th St.
EVERY Wednesday evening, Guild of Geeks (https://www.guildofgeeks.net/) & Sauce Odyssey invite all gamers for a bracket-style N64 tourney on the big screen. We wheel out the 60″ tv (and a few other TVs), and you wheel out your best 007, Mario Kart, or Super Smash Bros skills. Tell your friends, bring your pets, and join us as Nintendo nostalgia takes over the courtyard!!
They also have tabletop games on all picnic tables.

Craft Night: Layered Greeting Cards

Come to craft night at the Windsor Park Branch Library! Create layered greeting cards using a variety of decorative cardstock, buttons, ribbons, and other embellishments! Light refreshments will be provided. Free and open to the public.

Looking for a fun way to beat the Texas heat this summer? Come play, learn & explore with your child at the Y! Discover our interactive stations at the YMCA two times a month this summer! Come and enjoy our tumbling station, imagination station, puzzle station group circle time and more. Open to families with children up to 6-years-old. Locations in North Austin, East Austin and Downtown Austin!

FINAL FREE NIGHT is August 1! Learn to dance the music video choreography of Beyonce’s LOVE ON TOP with Ballet Austin instructor Jenny Alperin. Ballet Austin instructor, the great Long Center Dell Hall stage, the music of Beyonce, and YOU! All ages welcome. Beginners, experts and all dance levels in between are invited to sign up today! Unplugged at the Grove

Join Austin City Limits Radio in celebrating 26 years of ACL Radio’s Unplugged at the Grove with free live music every Thursday evening at the iconic Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road! It’s 23 consecutive weeks of the best live music, food, and fun you’ll experience under the clear, warm skies of Austin, Texas, with absolutely no cover charge! All ages are welcome to attend, and folks 21+ can enjoy $4 Ziegenbocks. The live music kicks off at 8 p.m.

Colony Park Back to School Bash

Mark your calendars for Friday, August 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.! The City of Austin Economic Development Department, Colony Park Neighborhood Association and partners are excited to host the second annual Colony Park Back to School Bash. We want to ensure students return to the new school year healthy, prepared and motivated to learn. This family-friendly event will feature a resource fair with services to support both students and families in preparing for the new school year. This event will also feature live music, free backpacks stuffed with school supplies, free food, outdoor activities, raffle prizes and much more. We invite you to bring your superhero costumes and celebrate the start of a new school year!

Ever wonder what artists in Cedar Park are up to? Join Cedar Park Pottery as we host a variety of local artists at August’s Cedar Park First Friday! Every first Friday of the month Cedar Park Pottery invites residents to the studio & gallery to support local art in a variety of mediums while enjoying live music and mingling over light appetizers. Plus, what better place to meet new friends than over a pottery wheel-throwing demonstration!?!

Georgetown’s Music in the Square Summer Concert Series
Friday, August 2 | from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Downtown Georgetown Square, 116 W 8th St, Georgetown

Music on the Square, a free summer concert series, returns to “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas” in Georgetown, just 25 miles north of Austin. These family-friendly, live music shows run Friday nights from June through August, with the exception of June 7, July 5, and August 2. There’s music for everyone including the Wilson String Band playing country rockabilly, Megatune playing reggae & Motown, Mike Hamilton playing saxophone jazz, and Lexxi Garza performing 80’s & 90’s covers.

A Star Is Born Free Outdoor Screening w/ Live Music
Friday, August 2 | from 8 to 11 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd

Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Austin musician Tyler Stuckey will perform a live musical set before the movie begins! Come explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated. Donations can be made via donation bucket at the venue.
