All This Week

Mirror Mirrored Exhibit
Monday through Friday, January 28 through February 1 | from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. | Austin Public Library, 710 W. Cesar Chavez St.
As writer Neil Gaiman reminds us, “Fairy Tales are more than true—not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.” Today, the most dangerous monsters reside not in haunted castles or forests, but right here in the real world. These tales are metaphorical swords and shields for our everyday struggles, and remind us that whether we are poor, unloved, sick, invisible, weak, depressed, oppressed, trapped, discriminated against, or simply mismatched with our world, we can conquer our demons and find a home that is right for us. Austin Public Library is launching a multi-media, interactive exploration of Grimms’ Fairy Tales. The month-long experience is anchored by a new art exhibit — Mirror, Mirrored: Contemporary Art & the Fairy Tale — which features more than 20 local and international artists and visual artwork inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales. All ages are welcome!
