Last Storytime of 2018

The last storytime of 2018 will feature our favorite books of the year!  The Kids Team has chosen– come see which ones made the cut! We will be making our New Year resolutions, enjoying yummy snacks, giving away awesome goodies, and celebrating another great year at BookKids!

Noon Year’s Eve Party
December 31 | at 11 a.m. | Lake Travis Community Library, 1938 Lohmans Crossing, Austin
Can’t stay awake for the midnight hour? Then celebrate the new year at noon! Make party hats and noise makers starting at 11 a.m. Children’s musician Joe McDermott will perform at 11:30 a.m. Snack on goodies and toast to the 12 o’ clock hour! Happy Noon Year! FREE!

Noon Year’s Eve @ Laura’s
December 31 | from 11 a.m. | Westbank Library, 1309 Westbank Dr, Austin
Ring in the Noon Year with Westbank Libraries and Joe McDermott! Join  for a New Year’s Eve concert at Laura’s Library. There will be music, dancing, and lots of fun–everything we need to lead in the New Year right with one of our favorite musicians. They’ll even do a countdown to 12 (noon)! Recommended for ages 3 & up.

Austin’s New Year 2019
December 31 | at 3 p.m. | Auditorium Shores, 900 W Riverside Dr, Austin
Bring in the New Year with a FREE, fun, and family-friendly celebration. Austin’s New Year will transform Auditorium Shores into an alcohol-free wonderland of music, art, special performances and of course, Austin’s legendary food favorites. Austin’s New Year line-up includes Superfonicos, Nakia and the Blues Grifters, Jeff Plankenhorn, and more. Capping off the festive evening, the traditional fireworks finale will start at 10 p.m.

Zilker Holiday Tree
Monday, December 31  | from 6 p.m. to midnight | Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Rd.
Take a spin under the tree and buy some treats from one of the onsite vendors. Tree on display nightly. Cost: FREE!

Mozart’s Annual Light Show
Monday, December 31 | from 6 to 11 p.m. |
Mozart’s Coffee Roasters, 3825 Lake Austin Blvd.
The 9th Annual Joyous Mozart’s Christmas Light Show is here and better than ever! This year is an on-going experience with over one million LED lights, a giant coffee mug, and more. New this year is the Cobalt Blue Piano that will be played by pianist all season long. They also have a German Market in the parking lot serving warm treats as you walk in. Whether you’ve been before or not, this is the year to add the Mozart’s Light Show to your calendar!

Are you brave enough to slide into the pfrigid water at Scott Mentzer Pool to kick off your new year? The event lasts until the last brave soul goes down the slide! No, the pool isn’t heated. Pfirst 50 people will receive a pFREE t-shirt. Plus, admission is pFREE with donation of a canned food item given to benefit local pfood banks.

Polar Bear Splash (Kyle)

Take part in the Kyle tradition and make a splash at the Kyle Pool. FREE!

With Legos, you can build anything you can imagine and tell any story you can dream up. Come to the Lego Lab to hear, see, make, and create different stories, all while building with Legos provided by the Library! Program length can vary, please call branch for details.

Something for the whole family! The game is rated E for Everyone by ESRB and recommended for ages 6 and up. Adults are welcome to compete. Sign-up begins 30 minutes prior to start time. The first 32 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot to play. Heart, Rain and Whimsy Art Exhibit
Friday, January 4 | from 5 to 7 p.m. | Old Bakery & Emporium, 1006 Congress Ave.
Heart, Rain and Whimsy with Lesley Bradstreet photographer of the awe inspiring tiniest details, E.M. Sutherland an artist with the love of rural Texas and small towns, and Michelle Martinez has a whimsical view of the world in her multi-media art work. The combination of art is both intimate and inspiring, it will be a charming emphasis to start the year. The exhibit runs through January 30. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is free parking off 10th Street. Artists’ Reception and January Art Exhibit opens on Friday, January 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Disney’s Frozen Free Outdoor Screening
Friday, January 4 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village.
Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
