Somewhere between the noble realm of Fine Art and the mighty realm of Illustration, lies a curious little field that is coming to be known as Fun Art. Cedar Park Public Library hosts this Fun Arts Exhibit, proudly sponsored by FunArtsWorld.com and Texas Cartoonists – National Cartoonists Society Texas Chapter.

Kids Eat Free

Anansi and the Golden Box of Stories
Monday, April 9 | from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. | Spicewood Springs Branch, APL, 8637 Spicewood Springs Rd.
African folktale tells the story of Anansi, the original spider man, and his quest to bring stories to all the world. In order to win a golden box of stories from Nyame, the Sky God, he must use his wit and cleverness to complete a series of challenging tasks. Recommended for children 5 and up.

Monday Movies The Karate Kid

Join the Willie Mae Kirk library branch for a movie screening. Watch and discover new films at the Austin Public Library. Free and open to the public.

McDonald’s FREE STAAR Breakfast
Tuesday, April 10 | from 6 to 9 a.m. | McDonald’s, Various Locations
On Tuesday April 10, participating McDonald’s restaurants in South Central Texas will offer a FREE balanced, wholesome breakfast on the first day of STAAR testing to students. Third through eighth grade students and teachers can visit their local participating McDonald’s from 6 to 9 a.m. to enjoy their choice of an Egg White Delight McMuffin Sandwich or Fruit and Maple Oatmeal, apple slices, and their choice of 1% low fat milk with or an Honest Kids Apple Juice Box.

Read with a Ranger
Tuesday, April 10 | from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. | Zilker Ranger Station, 2105 Andrew Zilker Rd.
You and your children are invited to story time with the Park Rangers. A Ranger will read a nature-based story and follow it up with a hands-on lesson about Leave No Trace and Responsible Recreation! The event will be held indoors if raining, or in the outdoor classroom if it is clear. This program is held every Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Zilker Caretaker Cottage.

Bookmobile Toddler Story Time

Celebrate National Bookmobile Day with a fun bookmobile themed story time and craft, then tour the library’s own bookmobile!

We Love Libraries Storytime

BookPeople loves libraries! Celebrate National Library Week with a super special storytime just for you. Austin ISD librarian Marion Rocco will be there to share some of her favorite books about libraries, including Bob Shea’s Dinosaur vs. The Library. She also has some songs and activities planned.

Members of the public are invited to join the Cedar Park Public Library in celebrating National Library Week April 9-15. This year’s theme is “Libraries Transform,” and Library Director Julia Mitschke said the focus is a “celebration of libraries transforming lives through free access to technology, resources for lifelong learning and opportunities for community engagement.” From April 11-13, staff members will host a toddler puppet show at 10:30 a.m. and a preschool puppet show at 11:15 a.m. each day.

Healthy Movement Night at Thinkery with Dell Children’s Medical Center ($1)

Healing Through Hands-On Science is a special partnership between Thinkery and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. Run, jog or jump on down to Thinkery for special programming centered around health and fitness! Thinkery is teaming up with Dell Children’s Medical Center professionals and local community partners for hands-on activities that highlight healthy living habits. Admission during Community Night (Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m.) is by donation, with a suggested donation of $1. Please note, pre-sale tickets are not available for this special event. Community Night admission is available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 4 p.m. This special collaboration was made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. We are so grateful for their generous support.

Wednesday Night Live: Spring Fest

Head
out to the Aldrich Street Paseo and help  celebrate all things spring! Craft items will be provided (while supplies last). Succulent making station, paint-your-own wind chime, live music from Josh Klaus Music and kite flying.

Cuddle Up and Read: Infant Storytime

New at the Manchaca Road Branch beginning, the Austin Public Library will be providing our special lap-sit storytime designed for our very youngest library users, infants ages 0-12 months! Join for this sweet, weekly, social, storytime where together we will sing, chant read and play, helping parents and caregivers incorporate early childhood literacy practices into their daily lives.

Science Under the Stars

Head out to Science Under the Stars this April to hear EEB PhD candidate Gautam Surya discuss his own conservation work in Northeast India, a global biodiversity hotspot. Science Under the Stars is a free public outreach lecture series. The entire family is invited to attend.

Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Music Department is pleased to present a Musicale consisting of student solo and ensemble works. Free and open to the public.

Recollecting Memories: Community Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Friday, April 13 | from 6 to 8 p.m. | Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Rd.
Artist Caroline Ryan explores family dynamics using old candid family photographs as references for her paintings. The artist reveals the astounding differences between her parents and her family’s struggle to communicate with each other as a means of accepting and understanding the past and present. Join us for an opening reception featuring an artist talk at 7 p.m. Refreshments and light snacks provided. Free and open to the public.

Wonder Free Outdoor Screening
Friday, April 13 | from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. | The Community Cinema at Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a FREE movie night at Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening of Wonder. Get there as early as 6:30 to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks. Hot dogs, milkshakes, popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase (cash preferred). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
