Another wonderful weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. 7th Annual American Indian Heritage Day
    Friday, September 27 | from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Avenue

    Join the Bullock Museum and Great Promise for American Indians in celebrating the 7th Annual American Indian Heritage Day! The day will feature a range of activities with dancing and drumming performances and interactive experiences for school groups during the morning and an evening program that celebrates the traditional and contemporary performance arts of Texas’s American Indian groups.
  2. Movie In The Park: Dumbo (Cedar Park)
    Friday, September 27 | from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Elizabeth M. Milburn Community Park, 1901 Sun Chase Boulevard, Cedar Park

    Bring your lawn chairs/blankets as there is plenty of space. Food concessions will not be available; you are welcome to bring a picnic and your own ice chest. Glass containers are prohibited.
  3. Aldrich Street Fair
    Friday, September 27 | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Mueller Austin

    Aldrich Street is excited to host its annual Aldrich Street Fair on Friday, September 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Guests can enjoy free food samples, drinks and activities from Aldrich Street businesses. Aldrich Street will be debuting a new aerial art installation as well. The event is free and complimentary parking is available in the McBee Street Garage.
  4. Secret Life of Pets 2 Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28 | from 7 to 10 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Come explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated. Donations can be made via donation bucket at the venue.
  5. Start Up Chica
    Saturday, September 28 | from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. | University of Texas McCombs School of Business – Rowling Hall Facility, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, First Floor

    Startup Chica is a conference for girls ages 9-18. In this workshop girls will work with professionals to explore entrepreneurship and discover their innovative ideas. They will learn how to start a business from design thinking to pitching a startup idea.
  6. Earth Kind Gardening Field Day
    Saturday, September 28 | from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Travis County AgriLife Extension Service, 1600 Smith Road

    Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Travis County Master Gardeners invite you to visit the Earth-Kind Demonstration Garden for ideas, advice, and DIY workshops. Free and open to the public, this family-friendly event features an assortment of DIY and demonstration activities, including tool sharpening, composting, grow boxes, and garden art. Information will be shared about drip irrigation methods, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, vegetable gardening, and Integrated Pest Management. There are several activities for kids, including an insect identification scavenger hunt. A limited supply of Earth-Kind plants and fall vegetable starts will be available for purchase. A free rain barrel giveaway is also featured.
  7. Pokémon Hike (Lockhart)
    Saturday, September 2
    8 | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Lockhart State Park, 2012 State Park Road, Lockhart
    Join to catch some real-life Pokémon on this fun hike! Pokémon are not the only creatures that “evolve” as they grow up! Just as Caterpie changes into Butterfree, so does a caterpillar change into a butterfly. Learn about these real-life Pokémon, and try to catch ’em all! All ages welcome. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Bring water and apply sunscreen or bug repellent, as needed. No registration required. Meet your guide at the Creekview Trailhead. If driving from park headquarters, take your first left-hand turn, pass the campgrounds, and park along the paved loop. Program is free with entry to the park. Regular park entrance fees are $3/adult, free for children 12 & under.
  8. Coco Movie and Crafts
    Saturday, September 28 | from 2 to 4 p.m.| Windsor Park Branch Library, 5833 Westminster Drive

Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.   9. Sound Waves – Free Symphony Concert
    Sunday, September 29 | from 12 to 1 p.m. | Texas State Capitol

    Submerge yourself in Cinematic Symphony’s big splash of music from water-themed films performed live under the Capitol Rotunda at noon on Sunday, Sept 29! This is another free concert with amazing sound under the dome. FREE parking is available (open gates on Sundays) in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto located between Trinity and San Jacinto Streets at 12th and 13th Streets.
  10. 10th Annual Puppy Mill Awareness Day
    Sunday, September 29 | from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Republic Square

    FREE EVENT!! Outdoor festival with rescue groups and vendors, live music, weiner dog races, Blessing of the Animals, BIG cash giveaways to rescues & MORE! Leashed, well behaved dogs welcome. Guest emcees Jim Spencer & KAXAN!
