Another fantastic weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Free Fun in Austin calendar is only for live digital events at this time.

  1. Anderson Terrace Pumpkin Patch
    Friday through Sunday, October 12 through 14 | from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. | Anderson Terrace, 11505 Anderson Mill Rd.
    The Anderson Terrace Pumpkin Patch opens, with a full month of fun through October 31. Free to pose with the pumpkins and props for a photo. Pumpkin prices start as low as $2 with corn stalks and hay bales for sale, also. Fun for kids and furbabies. Visit anytime and enjoy a number of fun and free family-friendly activities.
  2. Ghostbusters Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, October 12 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at the Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Get there early to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated. Donations can be made electronically when RSVPing to this event. Dress in weather-appropriate clothing and don’t forget your flashlights and bug spray. They also recommend wearing closed-toe shoes.
  3. Mondo Gallery Presents MARVEL STUDIOS: The First Ten Years
    Friday, October 12, and Saturday, October 13 | Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Mondo Gallery, 4115 Guadalupe St.
    Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years is an epic celebration of the 20 films to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Featuring new contributions from some of Mondo’s most sought after artists as well as previously released pieces on display, the show promises to be one of the mightiest in Mondo Gallery history. The show kicks off with an opening night reception that’s free and open to the public. The opening night reception will be held Friday, October 12 from 5 to 10 p.m. Following the opening reception, the show will run during regular gallery hours (Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12 to 6 p.m.) until October 20. Additionally, there will be a special Family Day party on Saturday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. which will include face painting, family photo ops, coffee and baked good, and more! Costumes are encouraged.
  4. Psalm 19 Astronomy Society – October Sidewalk Astronomy
    Friday, October 12 | at 7 p.m. | Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge over Lady Bird Lake near downtown Austin
    Look at the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars! The next Psalm 19 Astronomy Society event will be on Friday at the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge over Lady Bird Lake near downtown Austin. Psalm 19 Astronomy Society is an educational sidewalk astronomy ministry with the mission to share the beauty and majesty of God’s universe through astronomy.
  5. Oktoberfest
    Saturday, October 13 | from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. | German-Texan Heritage Society, 507 E. 10th St.
    Celebrate Oktoberfest at the German-Texan Heritage Society on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy some Gemuetlichkeit, German food and beer as well as live bands.
  6. 1st Annual Sing & Shout Festival (Round Rock)
    Saturday, October 13 | from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Calvary Apostolic Church, 2701 Sam Bass Rd., Round Rock
    This event is FREE and open to the public! All of your favorite characters from Sing & Shout for KIDS!  will be here. Meet Jack, Maggie and the puppets along with Cordelia and friends! Hotdogs, popcorn, and hot cocoa will be free. Many other activities.
  7. PFL Pfloating Pumpkin Patch – $3-10 (Pflugerville)
    Saturday, October 13 | from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Gilleland Creek Pool, 700 N Railroad Ave., Pflugerville
    Don’t miss the coolest pumpkin patch in Pflugerville! Take a dip in the pool, pick your pumpkin, decorate it and stay for pfun games and treats. Admission prices: $10 per person (includes 1 medium pumpkin), $5 per child (includes 1 small pumpkin), $3 per person (no pumpkin).
    The pool will also be open for recreational swim during the event.
  8. Second Saturdays are for Families: Branching Out
    Saturday, October 13 | from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria, 3809 W 35th St.
    Laguna Gloria is the proud home of many kinds of trees, both natural and artist-made. Make your own botanical work of art with unusual materials, then learn about our tree population from the educators at TreeFolks. Don’t forget to grab your very own sapling to take home! Workshop free with reservation. The Contemporary Austin offers free monthly hands-on art-making activities, recommended for ages 2–11. Reservations are requested for family art-making workshops; please reserve your spot  beginning the 1st of each month.
  9. Book Launch of Double Double Toil by Amber Elby
    Sunday, October 14 | from 2 to 3 p.m. | Malvern Books,613 W 29th St.
    Join author Amber Elby to celebrate the release of her new novel, Double Double Toil, the highly anticipated sequel to Cauldron’s Bubble. Professor Elby’s novels explore the characters and conflicts of Shakespeare’s plays in a fast-paced fantasy series aimed at ages ten and older that equally appeal to their parents and Bard fans alike.  Enjoy a reading and Q&A session with Amber Elby and special guest, Nori Rose Hubert-Besares, as they explore new twists on old tales.   10. Austin Ukestra Live Performance
    Sunday, October 14 | from 1 to 2 p.m. | Recycled Reads Bookstore, 5335 Burnet Rd.
    Local group, Austin Ukestra, will give a live performance of their repertoire, conducted by Kevin Carroll. See live music and other performances at your neighborhood Library. Free and open to the public.

  • Movies on the Lawn (Bee Cave)

    The City of Bee Cave Parks & Recreation is hosting a movie a lawn! Families can enjoy an evening outdoors as they get ready for Halloween in style with a complimentary screening of Hotel Transylvania 2. Guests may bring chairs or blankets to relax on the grassy lawn of the Hill Country Galleria’s Central Plaza and settle in for a flick. Complimentary popcorn will be provided by Cinemark for a limited amount of attendees so guests are encouraged to come early!
  • Harvest of Fall Fun (Marble Falls)
    Friday through Sunday, October 12 through 14 | Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Sweet Berry Farm, 1801 FM 1980, Marble Falls
    Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Closed all Wednesdays. Parking is FREE. The pumpkins and gourds are individually priced. Admission is FREE, but each activity has a fee. Activities include a hayride, corn maze, and pumpkin painting just to name a few.   • Art Squared Arts Market (San Marcos) 
    Saturday, October 13 | from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Downtown Square, San Marcos
    The Art Squared Arts Market is a juried fine arts and fine crafts event that happens every second Saturday, from March through December, in San Marcos. This open air art market features all handmade, original artwork shown by the artists themselves.  In addition to all the great art there is live music, free yoga/tai-chi, free kid’s arts and crafts, featured non-profit organizations, and a farmer’s market adjacent to the art market.  Art Squared is produced by the San Marcos Art League and is sponsored by the San Marcos Arts Commission.
  • Saturday Night Concert Series at Hill Country Galleria (Bee Cave)
    Saturday, October 13 | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave
    Hill Country Galleria is hosting their signature Saturday Night Concert Series every Saturday in October and continuing into November with music starting at 7 p.m. in the Central Plaza. Guests can sit back, relax and enjoy this free event with family and friends. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show and arrive early to shop and dine at Hill Country Galleria retailers and even get their meal delivered straight to the Central Plaza. Sun Radio 100.1FM will be on-site to emcee the event to introduce guests to the band. This week’s band is Edison Chair.
  • Proof & Cooper Pumpkin Patch (Dripping Springs)

    Scheduled events and times are as follows: October 13 – Hootie the Magician at 4 p.m., bounce house and carnival games all day. October 14 – Mr. Will (children’s musician) at 1 p.m., bounce house and carnival games all day,
  • Barton Hill Farm Fall Festival and Pumpkin Patch (Bastrop)
    Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 | from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday | Barton Hill Farm, 1115 Farm To Market 969, Bastrop
    Happening Saturdays and Sundays, September 29 through November 4. The farm is also open on Monday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Head to Barton Hill Farms and make memories with friends and family! They have fun activities for all ages. From taking fall photos and picking out your pumpkin in the pumpkin patch, to getting lost in the corn maze, jumping on the jumping pillow, playing human foosball, corn hole, and more, you are sure to have a great day! If you’re looking for delicious food and cold drinks, check out the concession stand. They have Lavell’s Lemonade, cold beer, frozen sangria, and other refreshing beverages. They also offer 100% all beef hot dogs, 100% Angus beef burgers, sno-cones, pulled pork sandwiches, and kettle corn.
  • Evergreen Farms Pumpkin Hunt (Elgin)
    Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 | from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday | Evergreen Farms, 242 Monkey Rd., Elgin
    The Pumpkin Hunt is a family-friendly event where children of all ages can enjoy fall activities. All activities are ongoing throughout the day, allowing families to customize their experience at the farm. Pumpkins of all sizes will be available for purchase. The premier event, the Pumpkin Hunt, includes a wagon ride into the Christmas tree fields where mini pumpkins are hidden in the trees. After the Hunt, enjoy pumpkin decorating on the pavilion along with great concessions at the concessions stand and other activities and games. The Evergreen Farms authentic pumper fire truck will again be at the Pumpkin Hunt. The truck will stop on the ride and demonstrate how the hoses and pumps work as well as sounding the sirens along the way. Each child will receive a fire hat after the ride. Admission and parking are free.
