Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: March 29-31, 2019

Another fantastic weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

This week’s Weekend Top 10 is brought to you by the ABC Kite Festival. Held each year in March, the ABC Kite Fest is one of Austin’s most beloved, family-friendly traditions. ABC Kite Fest boasts day-long activities for all ages, including the traditional kite flying contest and showcase, a fun run and MossFest, a children’s music concert. Weekend Top 10 FREE Austin Events: March 29-31, 2019

  1. HONKATX 2019
    Friday, March 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. | Mueller Lake Park, 4550 Mueller Blvd.
    A free festival of community street bands, the 9th Annual HONK!TX brings you the best in brass, from homegrown local bands to international performers! Join for three days of music, mirth, and merriment as ensembles play across Austin! It’s a menagerie of sight and sound that can only be described as HONK!TX!   2. Crazy Rich Asians Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, March 29 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  3. Movies in the Park E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
    Friday, March 29 | at 8 p.m. | Northwest District Park, 7000 Ardath St.
    Movies in the Park is a series of free films brought to you by Austin Parks Foundation. We’ll be visiting nine different parks this year, so head out to grab some food from our food trucks and enjoy a night under the stars and in front of the screen. If there’s inclement weather, the event will be moved to Thursday, April 4 at 8 p.m.
  4. Stemboree
    Saturday, March 30 | from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Frank Fickett Scout Training and Service Center, 12500 North IH 35
    Join a FREE day of STEM-filled excitement for ALL AGES at the Frank Fickett Scout Training & Service Center with tons of hands-on activities, science demos, and more! Companies and organizations from across Austin and beyond will be hosting booths and showing off how they use STEM. STEM patches and t-shirts and food available for purchase.
  5. 2019 Express Fan Fest (Round Rock)
    Saturday, March 30 | from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Dell Diamond, 3400 E Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock
    Gear up for Express baseball at the annual Fan Fest on Saturday, March 30! This free, family-friendly event will take place at Dell Diamond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dell Diamond will be full of free, family-friendly activities for fans of all ages during the event. From the debut of Home Run Dugout, to inflatables, Summer Camp Fair, petting zoo, photos with Spike, swings in the batting cages and much more. Details about Fan Fest can be found here. 
  6. Don’t Forget About Our Four-Legged Friends Dog Extravaganza
    Saturday, March 30 | from 12 to 2 p.m. | Metz Recreation Center, 2407 Canterbury St.
    This FREE event is dedicated to our furry family members. Join the Metz staff for a day in the park filled with fun games and activities designed especially for your dog! Door prizes, FREE snacks & samples, doggie games and  contests. Winners will receive prize baskets. Don’t miss out on the fun!
  7. NORTHSIDEKids Spring Celebration
    Saturday, March 30 | at 1 p.m. | Domain Northside, Rock Rose Ave.
    CHUGGA CHOO CHOO! On Saturday, March 30 bet there for the first NORTHSIDEKids event of the year. Parents are invited to bring their kiddos to the NORTHSIDE lawn to enjoy several different activities, including train rides, a bounce house, face painting, a balloon and glitter tattoo artist, and more! End the morning by taking home a fun portrait photo of you and your kiddo—and a first-come-first-served gift bag from select Domain NORTHSIDE and Rock Rose retailers and restaurants! The activities will begin at 1 p.m. This event is open to the public, however, space is limited.
  8. Saturday Night Concert Series 
    Saturday, March 30 | from 7 to 11 p.m. | Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd.
    Hill Country Galleria is excited to announce the return of its spring Saturday Night Concert Series. This free 10x music series hosted by Austin City Limits Radio features local favorites such as Nakia, Dale Watson and Fastball. The concerts take place in the Central Plaza and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show. Admission is free and dogs are welcome.
  9. ABC Kite Fest
    Sunday, March 31 | from 10 to 5 p.m. | Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Rd.
    Held each year in March, the ABC Kite Fest is one of Austin’s most beloved, family-friendly traditions.   10. Start-Up Kids Market
    Sunday, March 31| from 1 to 4 p.m. | Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe
    Support Austin’s young entrepreneurs at the Start-Up Kid’s Market, where students from across the city will be debuting their businesses! With a wide assortment of booths, you won’t leave empty handed. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful things our future leaders are capable of.
