Weekend Top 10 FREE Events: July 5-7, 2019

Another wonderful weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Lego Lab
    Friday, July 5 | from 12 to 1:30 p.m. | APL – Ruiz Branch, 1600 Grove Blvd.

    With Legos, you can build anything you can imagine and tell any story you can dream up. Come to the Lego Lab to hear, see, make, and create different stories, all while building with Legos provided by the Library! Program length can vary, please call branch for details.
  2. Georgetown’s Music in the Square Summer Concert Series
    Friday, July 5 | from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Downtown Georgetown Square, 116 W 8th St, Georgetown

    Music on the Square, a free summer concert series, returns to “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas” in Georgetown, just 25 miles north of Austin. These family-friendly, live music shows run Friday nights from June through August, with the exception of June 7, July 5, and August 2. There’s music for everyone including the Wilson String Band playing country rockabilly, Megatune playing reggae & Motown, Mike Hamilton playing saxophone jazz, and Lexxi Garza performing 80’s & 90’s covers.
  3. Vista Brewing Presents Driftwood Nights (Driftwood)
    Friday, July 5 | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Vista Brewing, 13551 FM 150, Driftwood

    Vista Brewing Presents: “Driftwood Nights” Friday Night Songwriter Series. Free Show. Rain or Shine. Benefitting Health Alliance for Austin Musicians – HAAM. 10% of draft beer sales during each show will be donated to HAAM. July 5 show features Little Mazarn.
  4. Dumbo Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, July 5 | from 8 to 11 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Come explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  5. 2019 Formula Sun Grand Prix
    Saturday, July 6 | from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Circuit of the Americas
    , 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd.
    You’re invited to watch the 2019 Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) at Circuit of The Americas! Formula Sun is an annual solar-powered electric car race. In the race, teams from colleges and universities throughout North America design, build, test, and race solar-powered vehicles on-track in three days of “raycing”. The team with the most total laps driven wins. Come out to the FSGP Public Day, and cheer on the teams on their third and final day of raycing! If you arrive as early as 8 a.m., you can see the teams in their charging configuration. During charging, the body of the car with the solar array is pointed towards the sun revealing the chassis underneath. This can also be a great time to meet and greet with the teams as they prepare for the final day of the race. On-track action begins at 9 a.m. The event will be held in the Paddock area of Circuit of The Americas. Parking and entry are free.
  6. SOLA Summer Series – Community Workout
    Saturday, July 6 | from 10 to 11 a.m. | Little Zilker, 2016 Bluebonnet Ln.

  7. Saturday Morning Kids Concert Series
    Saturday, July 6 | from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. | The Hive Austin, 10415 Old Manchaca Rd.

    Head out EVERY SATURDAY MORNING for Kid’s Morning Music Concert in the Hive’s beautiful backyard with some delicious coffee, brunch menu (RWB’s Chow Bus) and $3 Mimosas! Let the kids get run around and get the wiggles out. They open at 9 and music starts at 10! This week’s tunes provided by Strawbitty Yops.
  8. Women’s World Cup Viewing Party
    Sunday, July 7 | at 10 a.m. | Native Hostel

    Native Hostel has been showing all Women’s World Cup, Copa America, and Gold Cup games. Be there this Sunday when USA competes in the final! Kids are welcome. Drink and food specials available.
  9. First Sundays Yappy Hour
    Sunday, July 7 | from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | South Congress Hotel, 1603 South Congress Ave.
    There’s no better way to start your day with a (s)bark than on South Congress at First Sunday Yappy Hours! Starting in April, local brands Grocery Pup and Wondercide are cohosting Yappy Hours at South Congress Hotel every first Sunday, through October. Enjoy Juice Society samples, live music by DJ Cassandra and a variety of fun pop ups from other local pup brands while your furry friend chows down on fresh Grocery Pup and is pampered with swag. See you and your pack there!
  10. H-E-B Free First Sunday
    Sunday, July 7 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Ave.

    Enjoy FREE exhibition admission all day during Free First Sundays, held the first Sunday of every month. Families can explore the Story of Texas through three floors of exhibitions that showcase artifacts from around the state.
