Another fantastic weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around Austin. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend to help you ring in the new year!!

  1. Friday Movie Matinee Happy Feet
    Friday, January 18 | at 3:30 p.m. | APL – Old Quarry Branch, 7051 Village Center Dr.
    Watch and discover new films at the Austin Public Library. This week, they  will be screening Happy Feet. This is a family event, everyone is welcomed.
  2. Night Hike (Lockhart)
    Friday, January 18 | from 6 to 7:30 p.m. | Lockhart State Park, 2012 State Park Rd., Lockhart
    Ever wondered who uses the park after the sun goes down? Join to listen to owl calls, search for creepy crawlies, and embark on a hike to discover nocturnal animals and how they survive! All ages welcome. Dress for the weather (sturdy shoes and layers recommended). Bring a flashlight, if desired. Registration not required. Regular park entrance fees apply ($3/adult, free for children 12 & under).
  3. The Blind Side Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, January 18 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema & Amphitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village.
    Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  4. Celebrate the pFuture of Healthcare (Pflugerville)
    Saturday, January 19 | from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, 2600 E. Pflugerville Pky, Pflugerville
    Enjoy a morning of free fun and festivities at Pflugerville’s first, full-service hospital, part of the renowned Baylor Scott & White healthcare system. Enjoy complimentary health screenings; giveaways, including bike helmets; kid-friendly activities involving the Pflugerville Fire and Police Departments; refreshments; and a live cooking demonstration.
  5. When I Grow Up Festival
    Saturday, January 19 | from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. | The For the City Center, 500 E St. John’s Ave.

    Does your kid ever wonder what it would be like to play music onstage, wear a police badge, or go fishing with a park ranger? At the Partners in Parenting When I Grow Up Festival on Saturday, January 19, kids can do all of that and more. The main event will occur at The For the City Center, 500 E St. John’s Ave. Food and drinks will be sold onsite from a variety of great food trucks.
  6. Saturday Morning Drawing Salons
    Saturday, January 19 | from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Elisabet 
    Ney Museum, 304 E. 44th St.
    Come join for the beloved weekly Drawing Salons every Saturday morning in January from 10 am to noon! Elisabet Ney’s magnificent sculptural works can be your models, in her own historic artist studio! Each session is hosted by Museum Educators, and all of the required materials will be provided. Participation is free and open to everyone, regardless of age or level of experience! No RSVP is required!
  7. Hedwige Jacobs: If I could I would Cover Everything With My Drawings
    Saturday, January 19 | from 7 to 9 p.m. | Women and Their Work, 1710 Lavaca St.
    Join for the opening reception! If I could, I would cover everything with my drawings, Hedwige Jacobs invites viewers into an almost meditative state of observation, finding pleasure in unexpected encounters, unassuming materials, and common places. In her drawn surfaces, video installation, and cut patterns, figures move about, hover on the edge of the impossible, and reconfigure themselves in endless variations drawn from everyday interactions.
  8. 3rd Sundays Austin Flea
    Sunday, January 20 | from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Radio Coffee & Beer, 4204 Manchaca Rd.
    Happy New Year! Flea is back for the 3rd Sunday series at the fantastic Radio Coffee & Beer to kick off 2019! The Flea features all local handmade items and vintage wares from some of Austin’s most amazing and talented vendors. Find one-of-a-kind gifts for any occasion including jewelry, bath/body products, vintage, original artwork, paper goods, textiles and so much more! Entrance to the event is Free and open to all ages!
  9. Yoga at Williamson Family Campus
    Sunday, January 20 | from 1 to 2 p.m. | Williamson Family Campus, 1607 Colony Creek Dr.
    Yoga For All! All levels welcome. Donation-based class. BYOM (Bring your own mat). Families are welcome.
  10. Octavitas with Los Reyes Magos
    Sunday, January 20 | from 2 to 5  p.m. | Puerto Rican Cultural Center, 701 Tillery St.
    Puerto Ricans are joyful people because our holidays start in November and last until the end of January! Los Reyes Magos are coming to Austin to celebrate Octavitas with us! Everyone is welcome to come to celebrate the last holiday of the long and wonderful Puerto Rican Christmas season. Learn and sing along to traditional Puerto Rican songs. Participate & enjoy informal performances by our company and students. Bring your children to see the Three Kings (who will have gifts for the kids) and learn about our cultural performance classes open to all.
