Lakeway Resort and Spa is a lovely Hill Country hideaway, tucked into a tree-lined hillside overlooking Lake Travis. Guests have three gorgeous pools and a hot tub to choose from, inviting them to lounge and play while watching sailboats drift by on the lake below. I had the great pleasure of staying at the resort with my children last weekend, and we had a marvelous time enjoying the amenities.
Adults have their own beautiful three-tiered pool, with a swim-up bar and underwater stools and benches. But we spent most of our time in the pool with water volleyball and another pool with an awesome waterslide.
My four year old was thrilled that at 42″ he was tall enough to whip down the waterslide alone. My two year old loved riding on my lap and yelling excitedly the whole way down. As soon as we’d reach the bottom he’d say, “One last time!” And then, “More last times!”
All of my kids enjoyed the pool noodles that the resort provided. They could be crafted into boats and the lifeguards didn’t mind the kids riding their creations down the slide.
I appreciated that the resort was so family friendly. Kids are welcome and everyone seems to enjoy having them there. Ice cream and popsicles are available at the pool for $1.50. The casual restaurant, Josey’s Grill & Bar, offers seven different kids’ meals for $6, that come packaged in cardboard cars and include a Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers drink. I spent a bit for my fried chicken dinner, but it was so amazing I had to take a picture of it.
In the background you can see the remains of a watermelon, cornbread and biscuit plate that was a deliciously delightful surprise.
We let the kids stay up to watch the sun set over Lake Travis, from our private balcony. Then we headed back down to the pools and played until closing at 10 p.m. When we awoke in the morning, we did it all over again!
