Monarch Appreciation Day at Zilker Botanical Garden

Head to Zilker Botanical Garden for a family-friendly, educational, and fun-filled event to celebrate monarch butterflies and other pollinators 
on Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Monarch Appreciation Day will be free with admission to Zilker Botanical Garden ($0-3). 

Learn about bees, monarchs, organic gardening, and gardening for wildlife and pollinators at lectures scheduled from 10-2 in the Garden Center auditorium. Take the kids to meet and greet caterpillars, butterflies, and moths, see a display bee hive and build a bee house, make wildflower seed balls, butterfly wings, create a butterfly mural, and get their faces painted! Join a guided tour of the Blachly Butterfly Trail & Garden, and visit information tables to learn about gardening for butterflies, bees, and wildlife. Take a photo with Austin Bike Zoo’s 13-foot monarch butterfly bike!

  • Native Plant Society of Texas – Find the Animal
  • Austin Butterfly Forum – Butterfly table/tents – meet and greet caterpillars, butterflies, etc.
  • Zilker Garden Club – Butterfly tent
  • Austin Beekeepers – Bee hive display
  • PARD – build a Bee House and create Butterfly Mural
  • Zilker Docents – Butterfly wings and face painting

  • 10 a.m. – The Natural Gardener
  • 11 a.m. – Austin Bees
  • 1 p.m. – Monarch Waystations
  • 2 p.m. – Sustainable Urban Agriculture and Community Gardens and Wildlife Program

All Day Events:

  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Pollinator plant sale benefiting Monarch Watch and the Xerces Society
  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Information booths, children’s activities, butterfly tent and bee display hive!
  • 11 a.m. & 3 p.m. – Guided walks through the Blachly Butterfly Trail
