Have you ever been out and about with kids in tow, and wished you knew how to find the nearest playground? If so, check out this Google map of 110 Austin playgrounds!
Here is a description of the Playgrounds map:
The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Free Fun in Austin calendar is only for live digital events at this time.
The Austin Parks and Recreations Department oversees 89 composite playground sites with playscapes for 2-5 and/or 5-12 age use, and 5 sites with swing sets only. In addition, there are 16 playgrounds for public use shared with Austin Independent School District. The playgrounds are open for public use each day from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. unless otherwise posted. Exceptions for public time use may be for those sites shared with AISD or by the director of Parks and Recreation Department.
To see the interactive map on a computer, click here. Then, click on any of the blue pins, or on any of the playground names listed beside map, for more information.
If you have a smart phone, click on this link while on your phone and the map will look a little something like this.
One disclaimer: The map itself was created in 2010. However, the Google imagery should be more recent. Zoom in on the map to see what each playground looks like. Cool, huh?
Touching a blue pin on your phone screen will reveal a link that you can follow for more information on a particular playground. For example, clicking on the link shown above as “Springdale Neighborho…” took me to the screen below, which offered additional information on Springdale Neighborhood Park.
Doing so will take you to this screen, where you can select “Add to Home Screen.”
Voila! Now you can pull up the map whenever you need it.
If you know how to add a map to your non-Apple phone’s home screen, please share in the comments! If you don’t have a smart phone, you can still visit the map online before leaving home.
