Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd’s Goodnight Moon is known as a classic for a reason — many children have made it from their youth to adulthood with fond memories of hearing the gentle, lulling words from the book as they fall asleep. “Goodnight room. Goodnight moon. Goodnight cow jumping over the moon.”
And now parents and caregivers can introduce this cherished story to the children in their lives in a whole new way as ZACH Theatre hosts the stage production of Goodnight Moon from March 2 through May 27, 2018.
The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Free Fun in Austin calendar is only for live digital events at this time.
With this adaptation for the stage theatre-goers are able to “step into the Great Green Room as one of the most iconic children’s books of all time is brought to life. In this lively musical, Bunny’s room magically comes alive with stunning puppetry, tap dancing bears, and even a trip through the night sky with a constellation light show.”
In addition to Bunny and those tap dancing bears, the stage will also be full of some of the book’s most beloved characters including Cat & The Fiddle, The Dish with the Spoon, kittens, dogs, Tooth Fairies, and Clarabelle the Cow.
“We are thrilled to bring this iconic story back on ZACH’s stage with a beautiful design, charming music, physical comedy, and a great cast,” ZACH’s Director of Education Nat Miller said. “It is a wonderful way to introduce young people to live theatre in a way that is visually stimulating and enchanting with a book that has been read by many generations.”
Goodnight Moon is most appropriate for children ages 3 and up. The show runs for one hour, including one 10 minute intermission. The show’s run includes a Sensory Friendly and ASL Interpreted/Open Captioned Performance on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. There will also be a Pride Family Performance on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2 p.m.
