Free Fun In Austin continues to highlight Austin area locations and activities that may not be available at this time. First Thursday happens this week and takes place along South Congress Avenue, generally from Barton Springs Road to Elizabeth Street. The SoCo block party starts at 6pm and the stores along South Congress that normally close early stay open late until about 10pm. They will be joined by craft vendors, live music, and special guests. One of Austin’s best block parties! (South Congress Avenue, Austin)

The Taming of the Shrew at Zilker Hillside Theatre

Come out for art under the stars as the sun sets at Zilker Hillside Theater. This weekend’s performance will be Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The popular play is a comedy believed to have been written in the mid 15th century. Dogs must be on leash and picnics are allowed (no alcohol). FREE, but bring $5 for parking. ’90s Dance Party at Lucky Lounge

Unplugged at The Grove

Join KGSR at the iconic Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road for one of Austin’s longest running FREE concert series. The live music begins with Carolyn Wonderland at 8pm. BOARDLife All-Day Grand Opening Celebration

BOARDLife, a Colorado-based longboard lifestyle boutique, celebrates its first Texas location with an all-day celebration. The party kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with free breakfast tacos for the first 100 guests. Shoppers will enjoy specials on longboard gear, accessories, and apparel all day long. One lucky shopper will win a FREE longboard valued at over $200. From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., shoppers will be treated to Deep Eddy cocktails and tasty bites. Austin Piano Festival’s Opening Gala Concert

The Opening Gala is part recital, part soiree, with solo and duet appearances by festival artists and prominent pianists from around Austin. Tickets are FREE on a first-come, first-served basis. The 600th Moonlight Prowl at UT Austin

First conducted in 1988, the Moonlight Prowl is a nighttime campus tour packed with anecdotes of student life, campus architecture, and UT history. With content drawn from newspaper accounts, memoirs, and the UT archives, the Prowl is intended to help personalize the University, explore its history, and have some fun. The Prowl starts at 8pm. Ice Cream Cocktails Party

Celebrate the flavors of the season with ice cream cocktails at Métier Cook’s Supply made by Lick co-owner and chef, Anthony Sobotik, and owner of Genius Gin, Mike Groener. Anthony and Mike will be showcasing two inventive gin and ice cream cocktails – one shaken and one stirred – using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Raising Artists Exhibition by Generous Art

Raising Artists is a professional development program for artists at different stages of their creative pursuits. Generous Art has partnered with Big Medium and the Austin Center for Architecture to produce the Raising Artists Exhibition which includes artists who participated in workshops and mentorships in 2014–2015. The Grove Music Series at Southpark Meadows

This week’s Southpark After Dark will feature local talent, The Tiarra Girls. These three young girls are quickly becoming a local favorite with their fun melodies. Concert Series at Hill Country Galleria

Enjoy Saturday nights outdoors with live music and great shopping. The FREE music begins at 7pm in the Hill Country Galleria’s outdoor amphitheater. This week’s guest is Jesse Dayton. Bring your family, friends, and a blanket to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show. Browse the vendors, order to-go food and have it delivered to your spot on the grassy lawn. Music Under the Star

Bring your family, a picnic dinner, and a blanket or chairs to the Bullock Texas State History Museum every Sunday in May to enjoy FREE concerts presented by the American Federation of Musicians. All concerts are FREE, family-friendly and highlight local musical talent. This week’s artists are The Bluebonnets (Rock), Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers (Americana), and Corrina Rachel (Jazz). Each concert starts at 4 pm in the museum rotunda with performances outside in the Lone Star Plaza beginning at 5 pm.
