Artist Talks For “New Monuments for New Cities”

Waller Creek Conservancy invites the public to hear participating artists and local Austin community leaders and historians discuss the issues raised by the High Line Network Joint Art Initiative exhibition, New Monuments for New Cities. The three-month public art exhibition on Red River Street and 12th Street raises a number of questions about who and what has been memorialized in the past and how applying new lenses could shift the paradigm in the future. Two talks will feature the participating Central Texas artists in New Monuments for New Cities on Thursday March 28 and May 16. In between, Waller Creek Conservancy will host a panel discussion with Preservation Austin and the Austin History Center on May 2. Texas Night Sky Festival (Dripping Springs)

Celebrate the night with the return of Texas’ most loved star-studded celebration—The Texas Night Sky Festival®! This FREE family friendly celebration of the Texas night sky offers something for everyone, from kids to nature lovers to astronomers. The festival will feature fun daytime and nighttime activities including solar observations, mobile planetariums, demonstrations of glare-reducing lighting, opportunities to meet astronomers, tales of the night sky from indigenous cultures, delicious food, live music, and a good, old-fashioned Star Party. Festival goers also won’t want to miss hearing from world-renowned speakers and music by headliner Terri Hendrix. On Sunday, March 31, 2019, night sky advocates are invited to participate in a workshop led by the International Dark-Sky Association at the festival location.
Saturday Night Concert Series

Hill Country Galleria is excited to announce the return of its spring Saturday Night Concert Series. This free 10x music series hosted by Austin City Limits Radio features local favorites such as Nakia, Dale Watson and Fastball. The concerts take place in the Central Plaza and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show. Admission is free and dogs are welcome.

Contracommon Grand Opening and “Primer” Art Exhibition

Contracommon at Hill Country Galleria is pleased to announce PRIMER, an art exhibition representing its artists, presented alongside the grand opening of its collaborative space. The exhibition will feature a multidisciplinary breadth of work including paintings, garments, and installations from six of the organization’s resident artists: Jordan Hourie, Wade Fabry, Lloyd Wyse, Marcella Colavecchio, Taylor Bailey, and Monica “MB” Bushong. PRIMER kicks off on Saturday, March 30 with an opening reception at 6 to 10 p.m. Guests are welcome to tour the artists’ studios and the communal workshop while enjoying drinks courtesy of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and live music by Chic-A-D. The exhibition will then be open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays from March 31 through April 14, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Held each year in March, the ABC Kite Fest is one of Austin’s most beloved, family-friendly traditions.
