The Rumrunners Comedy Showcase

The Rumrunners Comedy Showcase is a FREE monthly showcase of some of Austin’s best-established comedians and also an avenue to introduce a couple of people that you might not know. Speakeasy is one of the best stages in Austin, and is one of the hosts of the Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival. A fantastic way to see great comedy in a professional setting. Starting at 8:15 p.m., this week’s comics include: Andrew Thomas, Eric Nimmer, John Buseman, Justin Spector, Lisa Friedrich, and MK Paulsen. (Speakeasy, 412 Congress Ave, Austin)

Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers

Who are Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers? More and more music lovers are learning the answer: a band that’s earned a nationwide following and international fans with its honest, original music fused with synergy, sugar, sweat and soul. The 10-year-old four-piece combo plays an Americana that encompasses Texas honky-tonk, Bakersfield twang, Memphis rockabilly, Western swing, and good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll. Heart/Wrench Opening Reception

Stop by for the opening art reception of the talented sketch-artist Mila Sketch. Heart plays a main role in Mila Sketch’s art. She sees the heart as a vessel of spirit, wise feelings, and mystery.  Mila communicates these interpretations powerfully through simple, yet subliminal sketches. The art reception is FREE from 6-10:00 p.m. and includes a DJ set by Deep Beats. (Zilker Brewery, 1701 E 6th St, Austin)

Triplane Comedy Show

Austin comedy captains Kath Barbadoro, Joe Hafkey, and Mac Blake are starting up a new FREE show, Triplane. The lineup for their 8:00 p.m. show includes Brian Gaar (ATX Uncensoredish), Amber Bixby, Ben Cholok, Katie Stone. (Companion, 908 E 5th St, Austin)

Throwback Thursdays with Jack Burton Trio

The Free Fringe

The Austin improv scene is bursting with creativity. A never-ending parade of improv experiments. There are hundreds of performers, and every single one of them is prone to saying things like “Wouldn’t it be crazy if…?” or “I just had the most insane idea.” This is where those dreams go, not to die, but to live gloriously on the stage for one night only at the FREE Fringe. This musical heritage pulls from the cherished musicality of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, and Slim Galliard.
