Country Music Sneak Preview

This September, Ken Burns tells the story of Country Music and the remarkable stories of the people and places behind a true American art form. KLRU presents a special preview of this exciting new series on September 4th at ACL Live at The Moody Theater. Hear from Country Music filmmakers Dayton Duncan and Julie Dunfey, get the inside scoop from Country Music U.S.A. author Bill Malone and Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson and enjoy a sneak peek at clips from the series. The eight-part 16-hour Country Music documentary premieres September 15th on KLRU and includes footage from the Austin City Limits archive of some of the genre’s most breathtaking performances. ACL executive producer Terry Lickona will moderate the panel discussion about the making of the series. KOKE-FM’s Bob Cole will be your host for the evening, which also includes a performance by Sarah Gayle Meech.

Ysabel LeMay Tales from the Green Room

In partnership with the Zilker Botanical Garden’s Conservancy, Davis Gallery is pleased to present “Tales From the Green Room”, a special pop-up event featuring Ysabel LeMay’s breathtaking digital compositions of natural richness. LeMay’s luminous hyper-collage fluctuates seamlessly between amplified imagery of thriving botanicals and wild animals from around the world in organic atmospheres half-dipped in a dreamscape. This special presentation will be on view for only four days. Ten percent of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy to help continue its work to restore and beautify the gardens, improve facilities, and enhance educational programming for people of all ages.  Ysabel LeMay: “Tales From the Green Room” will be on display from September 3 through September 7 and this reception will be held on Thursday, September 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The reception is free, open to the public and refreshments will be served.

UT Brainstorms: A Conversation on the Brain

The Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin is excited to announce the topic for their next UT Brainstorms – The Floating Brain: A Conversation About Navigation, Memory, and Weightlessness in Space, with Dr. James Knierim! The purpose of UT Brainstorms is to connect with the Austin community, and ultimately with the Texas community, to inform and educate about neuroscience research and the influences it has on our daily lives. We seek a two-way conversation where we share our expertise about the brain and we listen to what it means in people’s lives and to the challenges they face as it relates to the brain.  Attendance is free, and complimentary parking is available on-site at LBJ on a first-come, first-served basis.

Birds of Central Texas

Hill Country Galleria Hosts Bicycle, Blues and Brews

Hill Country Galleria, premier lifestyle center located west of downtown Austin in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is teaming up with the City of Bee Cave Parks to host Bicycles, Blues & Brews, in celebration of the city’s connectivity plan, an initiative to create hike and bike trails connecting residential neighborhoods to retailers in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and provide a safe and convenient alternative to driving. The ultimate goal of the connectivity plan is to identify and develop an off-street network of pedestrian walkways, hiking trails and bicycle lanes that connect neighborhoods, existing parks, schools, retail developments like the Galleria, and other key locations throughout the city. With a trail network, the city hopes to increase transportation options, improve air quality, reduce roadway congestion, boost economic development, and help to connect citizens with their community.
