John Evans In-Store at Waterloo Records

Witness the comeback of beloved Texas roots rocker John Evans with the highly anticipated release of his first album in six years, Polyester. “Polyester embodies the iconic style and genre-bending Evans is notorious for,” said Grammy-winning engineer Steve Christensen, who engineered and mixed the album. “It defines what great American music is all about. It’s homegrown, written on the highways, it’s got roots.” The in-store event is sponsored by Shiner and starts at 5pm. (Waterloo Records, 600A North Lamar Blvd, Austin)

Shakespeare’s Macbeth: Modern Military meets Witchcraft

Now in its 32nd year of FREE Shakespeare in Zilker Park, Austin Shakespeare brings a professional production of a modern, military Macbeth facing unusual witches and sword fights in camouflage. Audiences are encouraged to bring blankets and picnics on any Thursday through Sunday at 8pm, for the entire month of May, for the production co-sponsored by the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Unplugged at the Grove: Charlie Mars

This week’s featured musician for KGSR’s Unplugged at the Grove is Charlie Mars, starting at 8pm. This is one of Austin’s longest running FREE concert series. All ages welcome and additional parking is available at the Bicycle Sports Shop down the street on South Lamar. (Shady Grove, 1624 Barton Springs Rd, Austin)

No Shame at Salvage Vanguard Theater

No Shame Theater is an open performance form where anything can happen and usually does. The anything includes storytelling, theater, dance, comedy, music or any hybrids thereof. Pieces must be original, under five minutes and with minimal technical demands. Also, you can’t hurt the stage or the audience. Sign-ups start at 9:30pm. The first 15 sign-ups get to perform. Show starts at 10pm and is FREE to watch. (Salvage Vanguard Theater, 2803 Manor Road, Austin)

KUTX Live at Mueller: Hard Proof & The Que Pastas

Enjoy the final installation of the FREE KUTX Live at Mueller music series. This week’s performers are the kid-friendly The Que Pastas at 7pm, followed by Hard Proof at 7:45pm. Additionally, some of Austin’s favorite food trucks will be onsite. Free parking is available in the Mueller garage, adjacent to The Thinkery. (Mueller, 4550 Mueller Blvd, Austin)

Elisabet Ney Museum presents Ney Day

The fourth annual Ney Day will feature live music from SeVana Marimba, Miss Lavelle White, BettySoo, Molly Burch, and Nina Diaz of Girl in a Coma! Elizabeth McQueen is the official MC of this FREE festival from noon-5pm. Activities include sculpting and art demos, food trucks, hula hoopers, caricatures, technology activities, clay crafting, health screenings, bookmaking, and more. Booths will include Austin Pets Alive!, GenAustin, Girls Rock, Stitch Lab, and Thinkery, just to name a few. (Elisabet Ney Museum, 304 East 44th Street, Austin)

Live and Local with The Sournotes

The Austin Texas Convention and Visitors Bureau, All ATX, and Keller Williams present The Sournotes this Saturday at the The Austin Visitor Center from 1-3pm. Based in Austin, The Sour Notes are known for their cross-genre, DIY aesthetic, self-releasing five albums, three 7-inch records and a cassette. (Austin Visitors Bureau, 602 E. 4th St, Austin)

Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers at Rattle Inn

Who are Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers? More and more music lovers are learning the answer: a band that’s earned a nationwide following and international fans with its honest, original music fused with synergy, sugar, sweat and soul. The 10-year-old four-piece combo plays an Americana that encompasses Texas honky-tonk, Bakersfield twang, Memphis rockabilly, Western swing and good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll. Saturday Night Concert Series featuring Two Tons of Steel

Enjoy Saturday nights outdoors with FREE live music! The music begins at 7pm in the Hill Country Galleria’s outdoor amphitheater. Bring a blanket to lounge on the grassy lawn during the show. This week’s featured artist is San Antonio-based Americana band Two Tons of Steel. (Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd, Bee Cave)

Hilary York at The Continental Club

Hilary York was born in Houston. It was while hitchhiking through Europe that Hilary wrote her first song. She has been playing shows since 2000 in Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New York, and Spain. She’s released two albums, The Moon and In The Dark, which have generated strong reviews and significant airplay on both sides of the Atlantic.
