The Red River Cultural District brings you the first annual Hot Summer Nights. FREE and open to the public July 13-16 at participating venues and restaurants including Barracuda, Beerland, Cheer Up Charlies, Elysium, Empire Control Room & Garage, Mohawk, The Side Bar, The Sidewinder, Stubbs, Swan Dive, and Waller Ballroom. Featuring local food, vintage sellers, artisan vendors, and live music. The FREE event kicks off this week with a lineup that includes White Denim, The Octopus Project, Israel Nash, Matthew Logan Vasquez, Golden Dawn Arkestra, CAPYAC, Mike and the Moonpies, Magna Carda, The Midnight Stroll, Residual Kid, Mobley, and many more. Ground Floor is back and this month’s lineup is fantastic. Every second Thursday, your host, Taylor Dowdy, brings to Hotel Vegas the very best in what Austin has to offer in stand up comedy. Music Under the Star is a free concert series held each July in the Bullock Museum’s Lone Star Plaza. The public is invited to experience FREE concerts under the iconic Bullock Museum Star from 6-9:00 p.m. with complimentary garage parking. Bring the whole family, camp chairs, and blankets to enjoy an incredible lineup of Texas artists. Bring non-perishable food items for the Central Texas Food Bank. This week’s featured Music Under the Star series artist is Mother Falcon. Mother Falcon is a symphonic rock band from Austin known for wide-ranging instrumentation and collaborative songwriting. Opening at 6:00 p.m. is Molly Burch. Growing up in Los Angeles with a writer/producer father and a casting director mother, Burch’s childhood was filled with old Hollywood musicals and the sounds of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone. Stop by ABGB for Austin Pets Alive!’s 5th annual Love Your Rescue Pet Day party and celebrate all of Austin’s rescue pets. Attendees will enjoy live music, games, adoptable puppies, an interactive LYRPD photo backdrop, and vendor booths. Attendance is FREE but donations are always welcome. The daytime celebration from 3-7:00 p.m. is FREE, but tickets for the concert at 8:00 p.m. are $18. The ABGB, 1305 W Oltorf St, Austin.
For more than a century, The Wizard of Oz has enchanted readers, theatre, and movie goers alike. Now, ZTP will bring this cultural treasure to the historic, outdoor theatre at The Zilker Hillside. This summer, the ZTP team looks forward to welcoming over 45,000+ Hillside audience members to follow the yellow brick road “over the rainbow.” ZTP’s The Wizard of Oz is offered FREE to the public (donations gratefully accepted) during the six-week run on Thursday through Sunday evenings, July 7 – August 12, 2017.
