Summertime Blues with Mike & The Moonpies and JD Clark

Free Fun In Austin continues to highlight Austin area locations and activities that may not be available at this time. Mike & The Moonpies are the modern face of the outlaw country music movement. From their home in Austin, they carry the torch of their predecessors, while maintaining the originality and independence that the genre is infamous for. The Moonpies, led by Texas born songwriter Mike Harmeier, manage themselves and produce their own albums. While steeped in tradition, they rejuvenate honky tonk and traditional country music and appeal to a wildly eclectic audience. The FREE show starts at 7:00 p.m. Hotel Vegas, 1500 E 6th St, Austin.

Gutbusters at Hops and Grain

Need a good laugh? Gutbusters is back at Hops and Grain this week. While the beer isn’t free, the laughs are! This week’s lineup features fantastic locals and amazing guests: Rachel Streitmann, Brett Marie VerVoort, Kent Juliff, Matt Alvarez, Austen Silver, and is hosted by Nathan Ehman. The Pons and Magnifico (Queen Tribute Band) at The Highball

It’s a two-fer and all for FREE! The Indie rock band The Pons starts at 9:00 p.m. with the skill, the attitude, and the talent to make you feel something deep down in your cockels. Next up is Magnifico at 11:00 p.m., one of the most awarded and celebrated tribute acts in Austin. You’ll swear the spirit of Freddie is in the room. The Highball, 1120 S Lamar Blvd, Austin.

Friday Night Flix at Lone Start Court: Dumb and Dumber

Grab your lawn chairs or blankets and join the folks at Lone Start Court in the courtyard to watch Dumb and Dumber on their huge outdoor screen starting at 8:00 p.m. RSVP for FREE for a chance to win some awesome prizes: FREE one night stay at Lone Star Court, FREE tee shirts, and a FREE cap. 7th Annual Quesoff Benefiting Central Texas Food Bank

The seventh annual Quesoff, a celebration of all things melted cheese, will take place at 2:00 p.m. Around thirty vendors of all shapes and sizes–restaurants, top chefs, home-cooks, neighbors, brothers, sisters–will all go head to head in four categories: Meaty, Spicy, Veggie and Wild Card. A Best in Show will also be awarded to the overall top queso dish as decided by the esteemed panel of judges. Over the years, the variety of queso on offer has been nothing short of extraordinary, from queso ice cream to tandoori queso to duck mezcal queso. As was the case last year, Quesoff is honored to benefit the Central Texas Food Bank – entry will be FREE with a donation of two canned goods or a $2 donation per person. The Contemporary Austin presents Pride Party on the Roof

All are invited to stop by the Jones Center during Austin Pride for creative art making, music from local queer DJ Mouthfeel, complimentary snacks and signature drinks, and lots of glitter, in partnership with Equality Texas, Out Youth, TGQ Social, and Equality Vodka. This is a FREE, all-ages event that celebrates diversity, individuality, and self-expression in a safe and affirming space. View art in the galleries and dance on the rooftop alongside gay artist Jim Hodges’s spectacular installation With Liberty and Justice for All (A Work in Progress). McKinney Falls Park Cleanup

Rise up and dedicate an afternoon to joining an army of volunteers for cleaning one of the most beautiful parks in our fair city. All volunteers will earn the coveted Community badge and good feelings in your heart free of charge. Gloves, bags, and trash claws will be provided. Dress appropriately for wading through water, and remember to keep hydrated. Everyone will meet at The Buzz Mill at 10:00 a.m., then caravan to McKinney Falls as one. Volunteers will park at the Smith Visitor Center and conquer the trail between Upper and Lower Falls. The Buzz Mill, 1505 Town Creek Dr, Austin.
