This summer The Comfort Crew for Military Kids will host its second annual Camp Hero for Military Kids, a FREE week long summer camp for children ages 12 – 17 with a parent or sibling in the military. The camp is open to 30 Central Texas military kids and will be held at Camp Mabry from July 30 – August 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily.
At Camp Hero, kids will have the opportunity to connect with others who understand their challenges of being in a military family. Camp Hero will focus on helping campers express and cope with the emotions that are often exacerbated by military life and the challenges that come with it: anger, anxiety, guilt, and embarrassment, while at the same time participating in activities such as arts and crafts, journaling, and physical exercise.
The camp will also feature guest speakers that will provide a unique perspective on how to maintain resiliency during difficult times. Best-selling author Trevor Romain, currently on a USO-sponsored tour, will speak about service, commitment and community. Baker Harrell, founder of ACTIVE Life, and Alyssa Magrum of Colin’s Hope will also be speaking.
