On Saturday, March 2,Waller Creek Conservancy invites the public to Symphony Square to celebrate the grand opening of New Monuments for New Cities, a three-month public art exhibition. The exhibition is the inaugural project of the High Line Network Joint Art Initiative, a collaboration between five industrial reuse projects in North America including Waller Creek Conservancy. Each project invited five local artists to create posters to be displayed in “New Monuments for New Cities,” which will travel throughout the U.S. and Canada this year.
The celebration includes artist-led walking tours of the exhibit, live music from Big Wy’s Brass Band, and hands-on activities with partner organizations – Anti-Defamation League of Austin, AIA Austin, Mexican American Cultural Center, Austin History Center – and a conversation with Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art, Cecilia Alemani.
