Be a Fox 7 News KidCaster with Zack Shields

Fox 7 News is searching for KidCasters, between the age of 7 and 12, to help Zack Shields deliver the weather on Good Day Austin. Each Tuesday, a local child is invited to visit the set of Good Day Austin, to learn about meteorology, and to work as Zack’s partner for the morning weather forecast.

Several years ago, my daughter was chosen to be a KidCaster and enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame. Her 4th grade class watched the news broadcast on television that morning and she was an elementary school celebrity for the day. Fox 7 News also featured the KidCaster spot on their website, so it was easy to share the video with family and friends.

To nominate your child to be a KidCaster, you will need to fill out a submission form online. The form will require a current photo of your child in jpeg format and a 125 word essay stating why you feel your child is a good candidate for assisting Zack with the weather. For the complete KidCaster rules, visit here.

If chosen, your child will need to be accompanied to the studio early on a Tuesday morning. You will be given a tour of the studio and given some instruction on the inner workings of Zack Shield’s meteorological station. There will be photo opps, you will get to watch the show being filmed, and your child will help deliver the weather report.
