It’s Back-To-School Season – These Fun + Free Activities Can Help!

Ready or not, here the back-to-school season comes. Need a little help getting back into the school spirit? Prepare for the madness of homework, teacher conferences, field trips, and the millions of other school year activities by first enjoying this list of back-to-school festivities!

Colony Park Back-To-School Bash
Friday, August 2| from 5 to 7 p.m.| Turner-Roberts Recreation, Center 7201 Colony Loop Dr.
The superhero-themed festival will include a day of celebration with live music, free backpacks and school supplies, exhibit fair, and raffle prizes. There will be an array of activities for parents, teens and children to enjoy. Bring the family for free food, shaved ice, bouncy house, face painting, balloon artists and much more. Superhero costumes are encouraged!

AISD 14th Annual Back to School Bash and Safety Fair
Saturday, August 3 | from 8 a.m. to noon | Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Rd
From free backpacks to free health screenings and booster seats, this is sure to be an educational and fun-filled morning for back-to-schoolers of every age!

Stunt Ranch Back-To-School Bash
Saturday, August 3| from 1 to 3 p.m.| Austin Stunt Ranch, 13317 Fitzhugh Road
This one isn’t free but still worth the mention. At $20/child and $10/parent (everyone 6 yrs+ can do all the activities), enjoy a fun and exciting day with including zip lines, target practice, airbag jumping, ropes courses and much more!

Life in the Word Back-To-School Bash 2019

Free backpacks, free school supplies, free clothes, free food, FREE fun. There is nothing that says getting back into the school spirit like free stuff, and this event is sure to have lots of it.

DJ Bling’s Back To School Party 2019

Splash Bash Back-To-School Free Pool Party

Last Sip of Summer Friday

Last Sip of Summer is a free event designed to squeeze in a little more fun before school starts. The event will consist of live music, games and craft. Bring chairs, blankets and picnics. Free for all ages!

Sensory Friendly Back-To-School Fair
Saturday, August 10| from 12 to 2 p.m.| East Communities YMCA, 5315 Ed Bluestein Blvd
Join Easter Seals for a FREE event for families with children with special needs. There will be backpacks filled with school supplies for students in PreK-12, games and activities, snacks, information on local resources, and so much more!

Back to School Splash
Saturday, August 10 | from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Holy Word Church, 10601 Bluff Bend Dr
Holy Word Austin will be giving away free backpacks filled with school supplies (one per child while supplies last). Other activities include a giant inflatable water slide (bring your swimsuit & towel), dunk tank, bounce house, live music and more. Browse indoor and outdoor vendors including Austin fire truck, police car and health services!

Back-To-School Tailgate Party

Barton Creek Back-To-School Fest

Ring in the new school year with a totally FREE afternoon of live music, a Kind Shop marketplace, back-to-school fashion show featuring guest models and teachers from AISD, dance performances, flower crowns, delicious sips and bites, balloon twisters, and tons more family-friendly activities! Celebrate being kind with the Kindness Campaign, who makes it a goal to teach self-image, emotional awareness, and empathy to children beginning at age 3.

Back-to-School Free Haircut Event
Sunday, August 11| from 2 to 4 p.m. | South Austin Recreation Center 1100 Cumberland Road
FREE Back to School Haircuts for kids grades K-12th by Licensed professionals. We will also be giving away backpacks with supplies to those students who may still need one. (While supplies last). Children must be present to collect backpack.

Back-To-School Festival with El Mundo Newspaper
Saturday, August 17th| from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.| Delco Center

As part of El Mundo Newspaper’s commitment to our community, the 10th annual Festival de Regreso a Clases/Back to School Festival. The event is free of charge and open to the public in general. They will be giving away over 5,000 backpacks. (While supplies last), as well as school supplies, vision, speech & hearing screenings, booster seat distribution, adult & children health screenings and much more. Families will have the chance to partake in giveaways, contests, drawings and more!

Back-To-School STEM Saturday
Saturday, August 24 | from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.| Girlstart, 1400 W. Anderson Lane
Kick off the school year with Girlstart’s Back to School STEM Saturday! Take part in free and exciting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) hands-on activities for the whole family at the Girlstart STEM Center in Austin, Texas.
