Wow. This has been a crazy couple of weeks in Free-Fun-in-Austin-land. Allow me to catch you up to speed. Starting with the biggest news first, Free Fun in Austin won one of The Statesman Social Media Awards! You may have seen it announced online or in the paper. It is a funny thing to be honored for spending too much time playing on Facebook and Twitter (and Google+, and Pinterest), while four hungry children ask what’s for dinner, but I’ll take it! I want to say a huge thanks to everyone who commented on our nomination and another big thanks to you, the reader, for being a part of Free Fun in Austin’s online community. Winning gave me an excuse to go on a lovely awards ceremony date with my husband and to pose like Angelina Jolie.
I am actually holding the seemingly invisible
ninja star award in this picture, but I know you’re all just checking out the cute FIAT behind me. That’s alright, it is pretty eye-catching.
In other super duper exciting news, Free Fun in Austin was mentioned on KGSR (man, I wish I’d heard it – I love KGSR), on KXAN, and on YNN. I also heard a rumor that the site was mentioned in a taped interview for KUT, so let me know if you hear that one. Carol from Growing Up Austin and Nicole from LiveMom were behind most of that press – you rock, ladies!
What a wild adventure this blogging business has turned out to be. Thank you all for making it so much fun. And now, back to work!
The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Free Fun in Austin calendar is only for live digital events at this time.
